PostHeaderIcon Bye Bye EA

eaWell, it’s official. Zenimax Media (The parent company of ID Software), has taken over the production rights to produce the new Rage Game.

Bethesda Softworks, a Zenimax subsiduary, will be contracted to pump out the game discs.

It is possible that EA is going through some sort of restructuring as they had previously announced that they were cancelling more than a dozen games to focus on those with a higher profit margin. EA has also trimmed their workforce by over 17%

PostHeaderIcon Rage Game for the iPhone

John CarmackWe have all heard of “Road Rage” but how about “Phone Rage”?

You will if ID’s John Carmack has his way.

Carmack, whose ground breaking studio was purchased by Zenimax earlier in the year, revealed in a blog post that ID will dedicate two of its techs to full-time iPhone game development.

Carmack said “We have two people at Id that are going to be dedicated to iPhone work.  I doubt I will be able to personally open Xcode again for a few months, but I do plan on trying to work out a good touch interface for Quake Classic and the later 6DOF games.  I also very much want to make at least a tech demo that can run media created with a version of our idTech 5 megatexture content creation pipeline.  I’m not sure exactly what game I would like to do with it, so it might be a 500 mb free gee-whiz app…”

“I want to work on a Rage themed game to coincide with Rage’s release, but we don’t have a firm direction or team chosen for it.  I was very excited about doing a really-designed-for-the-iPhone first person shooter, but at this point I am positive that I don’t have the time available for it.”
