E3 2010: Rage Game’s Time to Shine
At a very entertaining E3 game convention the guys over at ID are showing us why RAGE will be on the “must have” list of games for 2011.
Rage was shown to a group of reporters and fans behind closed doors with no cameras allowed. Everybody was floored by the incredible graphics and the gameplay was fantastic.
Rage Game designer Matt Hooper was nice enough to give an interview to Kombo.com and tell us some of the nitty gritty about The yet to be released Rage
Bethesda Will Show Off Rage at Upcoming E3 2010
Bethesda has just announced the titles it will be showcasing at the annual E3 video game expo and RAGE will be among them.
Tracey Thompson, Director of PR for Bethesda Softworks had this to say:
“We’re excited to announce that in addition to offering hands-on time with Brink, a ground breaking shooter being developed at Splash Damage, Fallout: New Vegas, the next chapter in the blockbuster Fallout franchise being developed at Obsidian Entertainment, and Hunted, a third-person co-op fantasy action game being developed at inXile Entertainment, we’ll also be showing off a new presentation of RAGE, the new first-person shooter being developed by id Software!”
It is also expected that RAGE may be playable at this year’s QuakeCon giving journalists a peek at some much anticipated gameplay.
Rage Game will be developed for the iPad + iPhone
John Carmack, co-creator of Doom, told Kotaku in a recent interview that he would like to see RAGE developed for the iPad as well as the iPhone, after accepting his Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Game Developer Choice Awards.
John has programmed both the Doom Classic and Wolfenstein 3D Classic games to work with the iPhone, working on them in his spare time, he said his dream is to spend a couple of months every year just coding iPhone games.
With that in mind, it is hard to believe that Apple did not send him one of the pre release iPads.
A company as bright as Apple surely should have seen the obvious benefits of keeping someone like John on-board.
Christ, they should have him on the payroll!!
Note: the iPad is set for release early next month. In the past, ID Software has been one the highest regarded major game developers working on games for the iPhone and iPod, and soon the iPad.
It is believed that Rage is set to be released sometime this year.

Bye Bye EA
Well, it’s official. Zenimax Media (The parent company of ID Software), has taken over the production rights to produce the new Rage Game.
Bethesda Softworks, a Zenimax subsiduary, will be contracted to pump out the game discs.
It is possible that EA is going through some sort of restructuring as they had previously announced that they were cancelling more than a dozen games to focus on those with a higher profit margin. EA has also trimmed their workforce by over 17%

Rage Game for the iPhone
We have all heard of “Road Rage” but how about “Phone Rage”?
You will if ID’s John Carmack has his way.
Carmack, whose ground breaking studio was purchased by Zenimax earlier in the year, revealed in a blog post that ID will dedicate two of its techs to full-time iPhone game development.
Carmack said “We have two people at Id that are going to be dedicated to iPhone work. I doubt I will be able to personally open Xcode again for a few months, but I do plan on trying to work out a good touch interface for Quake Classic and the later 6DOF games. I also very much want to make at least a tech demo that can run media created with a version of our idTech 5 megatexture content creation pipeline. I’m not sure exactly what game I would like to do with it, so it might be a 500 mb free gee-whiz app…”
“I want to work on a Rage themed game to coincide with Rage’s release, but we don’t have a firm direction or team chosen for it. I was very excited about doing a really-designed-for-the-iPhone first person shooter, but at this point I am positive that I don’t have the time available for it.”

New Rage Game Interview
UGDB.com Has just published an interview with ID Software lead designer Matt Hooper and creative director Tim Willits.
The question and answer session shed some more light on the game including some more details on the storyline as well as some of the weapons that we will have available to us as well as some of the vehicle mods that will trick out our dune buggies.
Here is the interview:
UGDB.com: RAGE is your NEXT big title, but what are the things that make it exciting for you as a designer? Don’t you think that you guys have waited just too long to come up with a new IP?
Matt Hooper: Yes, the biggest thing about RAGE, and the thing that makes it new and exciting for me as a designer is that this is the first new IP that we make in id Software for over 10 years. If you guys are familiar in what we have done in the past, we have living in the Wolfenstein, Quake and Doom universes for a long time. Read the rest of this entry »
